Dr Marian Makary


MBBS, FRACP

Dr Marian Makary is a born and bred Kiwi who, in 2016, completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with Distinction at the University of Otago, New Zealand. Her academic achievements were recognised with multiple awards. After moving to Melbourne, she completed her Rheumatology training at the Alfred and Western Hospitals, obtaining her fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2023.

During her medical training, Dr Makary was fortunate to explore her interest in providing medical care in socio-economically disadvantaged areas, such as in rural Fiji and Nepal. She has enjoyed mentoring medical students and junior colleagues in both formal and informal teaching roles.

Dr Makary works as a Rheumatologist in private practice, and enjoys all areas of general rheumatology, with a special interest in inflammatory arthritis and gout. With her experience in general and acute care medicine, she enjoys working with people with complex medical conditions.

Outside of Medicine, she is a mother of two young children who enjoys traveling, music, drinking tea, and exploring the great outdoors.
